I was appointed as Tax Partner in 2011 to enhance and grow the firm’s tax offering to the region’s mid-sized companies. A key achievement in this time has been to develop DTE’s specialism in R&D tax credits covering a wide range of industry sectors and size of clients.
Prior to joining DTE, I spent eleven years with KPMG in Leeds and Manchester where I specialised in providing tax advice on corporate acquisitions, disposals and private equity transactions. I subsequently joined the Manchester office of RSM Bentley Jennison as Tax Partner for two years. During this time I focused on advising owner managed businesses and their owners on tax affairs.
At DTE, apart from heading the tax department, I am also a specialist in tax matters in the Forensic Accounting team. I frequently provide tax advice and expert reports on forensic matters, including litigation and professional negligence, matrimonial cases and commercial disputes. My most recent Expert Witness appointment in relation to a professional negligence claim was to act for the Claimant in a claim for approximately £800,000 in relation to capital gains tax and inheritance tax advice involving trust arrangements which were designed to mitigate the Claimant’s capital gains tax liability. The Defendant was a “Top 7” national accountancy firm.
Specialisms: corporation tax, income tax, R&D tax credits, capital gains tax for individuals and companies, tax advice on buying and selling businesses, group reorganisations and demergers, international tax issues
