Since the pandemic first struck the UK last year, we have seen a flurry of government interventions to support businesses and employees, from tax holidays to government-backed funding schemes.

At first, as HMRC were occupied with the implementation of these policies, they put less emphasis on business compliance. In recent months, however, HMRC has become more active again in their tax compliance work, including pursuing those businesses which have committed furlough fraud, among other areas.
