Lewis Holt has worked for DTE since February in our accounts and audit department. However, Lewis chose to undertake a secondment with our corporate finance team in an attempt to get an insight into how a different department operates.

Here, Lewis reflects on his three-week experience:

Why did you want to take on a secondment in Corporate Finance?

When the opportunity arose to undergo a secondment with Corporate Finance, I immediately wanted to get involved. I thought it would be a good opportunity to test myself with something new whilst giving myself the opportunity to learn new skills.

Give us a sense of the type of work you were involved in

I have been involved in multiple lines of work while working with the Corporate Finance team. This work has ranged from researching companies to working on preparing data books and presentations for ongoing projects.

What skill do you think is most important to succeed in Corporate Finance and why?

From my experience, communication has proved to be the most important skill whilst working in Corporate Finance. Being able to communicate with clients, third parties and team members to ensure everyone is on the same page is critical. This combined with efficient and effective working, ensures all jobs are completed to the highest standard whilst maintaining satisfaction for all involved.

What have you enjoyed the most about your time in Corporate Finance?

The experience of something new has been the most enjoyable part. I have valued being able to see and understand how a different section of the organisation operates. The team have been very helpful and insightful, making sure I understood all tasks and explained anything which was new to me. They have all ensured my time working with them was as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.

Lewis Pearson, Corporate Finance Associate Director, expressed his admiration for Lewis. “We hope that Lewis enjoyed his secondment in Corporate Finance and that we were able to provide Lewis with a clear idea of the type of work we undertake. We were impressed with Lewis’ output and his attitude to work. He was a welcome addition to the team albeit for the short time he was with us.”
