During the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, Companies House, implemented a temporary measure to support businesses by granting a 3-month extension for filing their accounts. This extension provided much-needed relief to limited companies, allowing them more time to fulfil their filing obligations.

As the world gradually headed towards ‘normality’, Companies House removed the automatic service. Nevertheless, the option to request a Covid-19 filing extension was still available.

However, more recent developments have taken place and Companies House has now removed the option to extend filing deadlines for Covid-19 related reasons. An extension can be requested for the following reasons only:

  • Illness
  • Accounting issues
  • Applying for another reason
